Sifu Rick Ostrander
Rick, is the Master Instructor at AASD. Rick was certified and started teaching Kick-robics in February 1996. A fifth degree black belt, Rick has won many tournaments with his flawless kata performances. Rick loves working with children and adults and is also an expert with weapons.Rick has found that his martial arts training has helped in all aspects of his life and he is very eager to pass on his knowledge to other students. It is with his guidance that many of our current programs, including Kick-robics, were developed. As a Master Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve, Rick brings over 25 years of military experience to the studio as well.

Roger Bott has been teaching Kick-Robics for over 5 years with a  total  martial arts experience of 7 years.

Roger joined American Academy of Self  Defense  in  January  of  1998!
He  was certified  as a Kick-Robics Instructor in Los Angeles back in 1999.

Roger has continued with training, not only in Fitness Kickboxing, but working on finishing his college degree as well. Despite a full time  work  schedule, and college, Roger  still finds  time to teach Kick-Robics  since  he  feels  it is such fun  and  gets  great  satisfaction  in helping  others  achieve  their  fitness goals!
Fritzie Mae Mansueto, also known as “Sifu Mae” is the #1 female sifu at American Academy of Self Defense (AASD).

Sifu Mae is currently a 2nd degree Black Belt and in the process of attaining the highest level of it. She has gained lots of confidence, discipline and friendship as well.

Mae has developed exceptional karate moves, handling her weapons with precision, executing her
kata with grace and force, while maintaining her great sense of humor.

Mae teaches kick-robics with determination and her youthful spirit makes it fun.

School is her priority but always finds time to teach and guide students. Mae is always joyously delighted when watching a student execute kata moves and forms in pefection.

Mae appreciates what she has learned and says "I owe it all to our Sifu Rick who is always there for me, guiding me in my karate career."
Pat Irelan has been with the school since November 2004. He holds a Third Degree Black Belt, however his experience and knowledge is far more than usual. As a father and family man he still finds time to train, teach and help others. He usually fills in during Sifu Rick’s absence at the school.


Ellen Germain joined American Academy of Self Defense in May 2006. She has been training with Sifu Rick for about 3 years and is currently a 1st Degree Brown belt working toward her Black Belt.

She has been doing Kickboxing at gyms and studios for about 10 years now.

Ellen began instructing Kickrobics at American Academy of Self Defense in November 2008, and continues to instruct and learn new innovative ways to workout the students and keep her classes fun and fast paced.
